Thought I leave my experience with the Pic-Importer here.
I need 1 hour to import a picture with colour on 150px after the conversion to 30 sec. chunks which takes like 5-10min. ~75 chunks in total.
50² = 2500 | 150² = 22'500 | 300² = 90'000
