I think you wouldn't need to change the obstacles if a checkpoint would be midway there.
Some kind of overview to check the map out. So we would know how big it is, which wasy are there

Trial and error to figure those out so often respawning way back.
Additionally if we come far the progress isn't saved if we leave which lead to "I have to finish this now" or I lose all the progress. Not knowing how long the level even is.
