You ever see the 1998 Japanese anime "Serial Experiments Lain" or its PlayStation 1 game prequel? It was a bit of a proto-Cyberpunk setting with similarity to The Matrix. It was about a girl named Lain becoming god of The Wired, basically the Internet.
