Every character here including your own has a hidden inventory system. Everyone has a carrying capacity of 5 items, which can be pretty much anything that-

I should probably clarify that Adel's reaction is prompted by the fact that in Latnia, only soldiers and nobility are allowed to openly carry swords in times of peace. And since Melinora is clearly not a soldier, Asel assumes she's dealing with a noble :)
