Here's a pretty generic idea, requiring that these houses have a few seperate rooms: One of the rooms contain a presumably dead worker. Once u enter another room, the door behind u will shut & sfx is played. When u open the door again, the body is gone.

In one of the houses, have one of those cat clocks that look left and right. Put creepy eyes on it (+ eye follow player and ticking sound) A very nostalgic mixed with creepy decoration!
