Currently paint clones from the settings menu are relatively irregular, which is fantastic for quickly making effective visually dense/"noisy" scenery.

There'd also be a lot of use-cases for more predictable and regular repetitions.  The example that brought this to mind was a chain-link fence.  With a painting of one section of mesh panel, the clone 'In a Line' option would be able to quickly populate a large stretch of fence.  If the 'Spread' Slider populated the clones at equal distances, and then the 'Number of Clones' filled them in with increasingly linear density, you'd have perfect control and would only require one Paint asset inside your overall object.

There would be similar benefits for things like Window Grids on a plane, more orderly detailing of circular objects like clock faces etc.
