This setting is quite confusing, even for a veteran like me to understand. Currently we have:
- An icon of a running man, indicating this has something to do with movement. (This setting has nothing to do with movement.)
- The name uses the word "Lean" which is used in another setting: "Lean Into Strength" which is to do with movement and acceleration. (This setting has nothing to do with movement.)
- The name uses the word "Lag" which in computer/gaming contexts is almost always relating to time. (This setting has nothing to do with time.)
- The tooltip is "Defines how much the head will move before the body starts to move," indicating this has something to do with movement. (This setting has nothing to do with movement.)
The tooltip is actually technically correct... but only makes sense if you already know what the setting does. If you don't already know what the setting does and you read it, you'll start putting that together with the rest of the context the UI gives you and go down a whole other road. This is because the tooltip isn't actually specific enough to get the correct meaning purely from reading it.
Suggested changes to aid in understanding:
- Change the icon for a man standing still instead of running. Similar to <uisway> but with the chevrons around the head. This will no longer indicate it's related to movement.
- Change setting names to avoid confusion, so that there is only 1 meaning of "Lean" from the puppet-related UI. Have it mean "Motion-Control-Style Head Tilting" for all references, and not be used in contexts where that meaning is not used.
- Change the setting name to not use "Lag" which has multiple meanings, but use a word that has only 1 meaning.
- Remove ambiguous language in the tooltip. "Move" is the confusing part here. Indicate the context for when this applies. Perhaps something like "How much the head can tilt from Motion Sensor Movement before the body tilts with it."
I don't have answers for all of the above. And perhaps you could get away with only changing the tooltip, as the whole point of a tooltip is to learn more about what something does. But the other changes would each incrementally help newcomers to Dreams creation.
