Currently, shareplay sort of "half works." When another player is connected (and on PSN or not) Dreams goes into offline mode.
So a weird workaround has to be employed by giving the remote player control of the local player's "slot." And using another local slot for the player at the console. Apparently this works, but is a whole faff, and unless you happen to know about the trick you'll think Dreams is just buggy and there's no way of making it work for shareplay.
I know that in theory at least multiplayer will come at some point in the future. So it could be that shareplay was purposefully made to not work properly, so that people will prefer to use the real multiplayer when that's in place. (Hence putting this in ideas, and not reporting as a bug. Though it's probably been reported as a bug many times already.)
Or it could be that the stuff like allowing their name to be shown on indreams for scoreboards and whatnot is harder to implement if the user isn't local to the console? (But I feel like there must be ways.)
That said... shareplay should still be fixed up I think. Both so players can use it in the meantime, but also so we can use the other features of shareplay like playing with friends who don't have Dreams--which would effectively expand the playerbase.
Plus making Dreams not seem like it's full of bugs when people try to use shareplay, which is a bonus 😅
