Currently the way we can see a more detailed view of the thermos and sub-thermos is to click on the thermometer display, then "more info." A whole new view takes over the screen with details on sub-thermos, explanations of what they cover, etc.
This has served us well so far, but it does mean that we cannot make changes and see how it affects the sub-thermos live. And we cannot see the 2-decimal-place precision values for each thermo and sub-thermo while making changes in the scene.
This kind of checking--making a change and seeing the affect on thermo--really helps creators gauge how efficient they are being in what they are building, comparing thermo costs, etc. But as it stands, this is harder to do that need be.
This idea is one way of tackling that problem.
While the thermometers are shown, show any change live--as already happens--to 2 places of precision.
Hover over a specific thermo, and show 2-decimal-place precision values for the one being hovered over, and the "long" view of that specific thermo (the others don't need to expand).
Click on a specific thermo, and that will toggle the sub-thermo view for that category. This consists of vertical bars, one for each sub-thermo that's being used. An icon below each one indicating what sub-thermo it's for. That stuff stays on while testing, creating, etc. so we can see how all the sub-thermos are affected live.
Hover over a specific sub-thermo and the 2-decimal-place precision value for that sub-thermo is shown above it. Keep hovering for a time and a popup with its name and explanation shows (similar to hovering over a menu and seeing the explanation for that option or gadget).
Changes in a sub-thermo makes the difference in the bar height flash in some way--maybe white for increase, and red for decrease. Along with the 2-decimal-place precision + or -, similar to how it works for the categories.
Click on the thermo category to toggle off this advanced view. Or on a different category to open that one instead.
This would allow advanced creators more access to live data while optimising or comparing costs, with a more streamlined interface that doesn't block editing. While leaving the UI very simple for newer users, with all the information still easily accessible to them.
