For example, when uploading a version of a dream that links to an old version of a scene, or collection that links to an old version of an element.

The way it works now is, it needs to upload the version it links to even if it's not the latest version. (It seems sometimes even if that older version is online it re-uploads it for some reason?) So then that old version of the related asset is now the latest version because it was uploaded, when in almost all cases the creator intended the dream or whatever to use their latest version and *then* upload it.

This causes people to think they've lost a load of work and have to start making all those changes again, but their changes are still there in an older version. This frustrates the creator and means they redo a lot of stuff they didn't need to, because the systems in place are not clear.

Ideally, if any older linked-to version must be uploaded it should be very clear that it is an older version. Perhaps with a separate message screen being brought up first. Like, "Do you want to update all old links before uploading? Update select assets? Continue without updating at all? Or cancel upload?"

This would save a lot of confusion, frustration, and wasted work. And would actually make it quicker to upload, with the "update everything" option.
