Right now that setting is only shown if there is at least one effect field gadget in the performance window. As it is, I can see down-sides and no up-sides to it being hidden like this. And I can see no down-sides to it always being shown, and no down-sides.
Even if this offset has no effect on the sound gadget itself, it would be better to be shown at all times anyway. And if they have no effect fields in the performance window, nothing will be messed up by them seeing or using the freeform offset setting.
Up-side to it always being shown:
There are uses for this setting other than with effect fields. For example, we can use its outputs as a 2D value for animating eyes--without the need for effect fields at all.
Down-sides to it being hidden:
Right now, we need to add the effect to see the setting, animate the setting, then (if we want to save the thermo) delete the effect field that wasn't doing anything anyway. The outputs and animations work whether this setting is shown in the tweak menu or not, so it doesn't seem as though hiding it is saving memory or anything.
This also hinders learning about the sound gadget. If someone is new to the sound gadget and is trying to learn about its settings it would be very confusing if that setting was nowhere to be found. If they don't know how it relates to effect fields, they may never guess they need to add an effect field in the performance window just to see the setting at all. (It took me 5 minutes of confusion, self-doubt, checking my own documentation, before finally figuring it out... and I know what I'm doing 😅)
