There is some basic elements of this that I must be missing because the grid appears to behave erratically. I kinda asked some of this before, but I don't think the kind helper understood what I was asking.
I've been doing lots of testing to get used to the tools/controls. So I have some basic questions.
1. Does the level itself have an integral grid? Or is the grid always subjective?
I'll take a cube, clone it, move it a bit away....and it wont lock into the grid the same as the parent object. It always seems to be a little to either side. If i move on the Z-Axis, it's off on the Z. If I move on the X, it's slightly off on the X, etc.
2. How do you get stretch to lock into the existing grid?
I DON'T want to lock the grid to the objects, I want to lock the objects to the grid. The stretch will increase by the proper amount, but completely ignore the actual grid "lines".
For Example: The goal is a basic doorway shape (I use this shape a lot for testing). I have a cube. I stretch it into a pillar. I clone that pillar and place it to the side. I clone that pillar again, rotate it onto it's side so I can lay it across the top....and it's completely out of wack with the two pillars, no matter how I move it stretch it in or out. Even worse, sometimes it'll match one pillar, but not the other. Or it will match on the X and Y axis, but not on the Z. It's the same shape, so there should be no overhang.
3. How do you grow or shrink an object to lock into the grid?
Resize doesn't even seem to care about the grid at all. Again, using the cube, If it is one "grid square" in size (1x1x1), when you press L1+UP, it should become a 2x2x2 cube. But it doesn't. I'm pretty sure it became something like a 1.6x1.6x1.6 and then, when I did it again, it was something 2.1 or 2.2 on a side. Is there another button combo for this?
This HAS to just be me not knowing all the controls. The doorway shape was something I could have done in 30 seconds in LBP. Getting this done took me almost an hour of just trying over and over again, deleting and re-cloning until it mostly matched, seemingly at random. It's still not quite right.
Help me Obi-Wan Moleculi, you are my only hope!
