So I'm entirely new to animating and lack basic concepts or terminology. I imagine what I want to do is not terribly groundbreaking but I fail to do it.

Basically in the animation tutorial I had block moving sideways once with action recording and once with keyframes. I understand both concepts well enough. What I wanted to do was add a second animation on top of the first that can be activated at will. For example while the block moves sideways it suddenly jerks upwards.

I seems playing two animations at the same time results in a weird and undefined blend of the two. That way it seems difficult to get a specific behavior working. So what is the best approach here?
