You can make a possessed object follow the imp.
First, stick a Controller Sensor to a sculpt in the shape of the cursor you want. Tweak the Controller Sensor -- on one of the pages, you'll find an option to change the object from Possessable to Follow Imp. Toggle on the Force Possession option on the same page, and you'll have the desired effect.
