If you're only trying to detect that "A is within some zone Z of another object B", then your best option is to put a tag on A and a Trigger Zone gadget on B. Wireless transmitters and receivers are better for just acting like wires that don't need to be connected.
If you're coming from an LBP mindset, you're probably thinking the wireless transmitter and receiver function like the magnetic key and switch- they don't.
