I'm a DS4 user and using the grid helps. You can adjust the grid size to your liking. Sometimes I'll take it down to 1/32 to move in tiny increments. When moving an object, once you get it in the general area you want, you can lightly press the R2 button and it will slowly move or nudge so you can get more precise. As far as the animation. The action recorder is yes, going to be shaky. But the Keyframe only saves the final spot you put it in. So the inbetween movement doesn't matter. And, you can adjust the time at which the object moves to the final position. It can snap to it or you can make it slower and it smoothes the inbetween for you. These are linear movements though, not arcs for the Keyframe. Trust me, you're on day 1, it gets easier.
