Ok so I've been chatting with Christophe just now about the issue you've got.
Firstly we want to say it looks amazing! We can't wait to see where you take it :)
So a suggestion from Christophe to try out would be to put a piece of invisible floor under the puppet, and then after a brief amount of time destroy the floor, it should then allow your puppet to be able to fall/move down as the floor it once had has now gone.
It's why you can have a puppet in a scene with no floor and run around which you may have seen when looking at peoples characters.
