Is there any kind of delay between when the spider appears and when the animations begin? I'm not totally sure if this is the problem, but if the animations begin in the same logic frame as the spider is being powered on, it could be what's causing the problem.
If there's no delay, I would try adding a .1 second timer before the action recorder starts. Or, you could try only toggling the spider's visibility, rather than it's power button (which is what it sounds like you're doing).
