You might be able to simplify and fake the physics, take a look at this thread: https://feedback.indreams.me/forums/917431-dreams-bugs/suggestions/36361693-physics-collisions-seem-a-bit-unreliable#comments
Also, I think the physics system works in the basis of using spheres, so low quality settings may be better for a single ball.
