If you make "live clones" (something not covered by the tutorials), this can be done as you describe. To make a live clone, use the clone tool (two sheep, you must use this tool to be able to live clone). Then on the context menu to the right of the screen (when using a DS4) tick the "live clone" button. Live clones use the exact same piece of memory. So this makes it much more efficient, thermometer-wise. And it means that whatever you do to one object/group is applied to all other live clones.
