Live cloning allows you to clone a sculpt and when you edit one of the clone the others get updated to match.

this is useful when youre making a biped and want to have the limbs to match. it also

and to answer the original post. they aren't live clones anymore. i tried since those clones used the regular clone feature. it overrides it.
