The way I did it was with the cut out tool. It cuts out a piece of the sculpture, then u can change the looseness of that using style mode. Alternatively, u could just delete a piece of the sculpture and make an identical one that fits in that piece.
For example, when I had to do this, I had a large rectangle sculpture, but I wanted a smaller circle sculpture within that rectangle sculpture to have a different looseness and fleck type and such, so I used the stamp tool and set it to delete, and deleted a small portion on the inside of the rectangle. I then created a circle sculpture and fit it inside that hole in the rectangle.
The cutout tool is much faster but i couldn’t find out how to change the shape of the cutout, so it was always a square cutout
