Make sure you're not moving the character when you shrink via keyframe. The keyframe will lock Connie to the grid coordinates you moved her to when powered on.
Try activating the keyframe, hover over her, and press down on the D-pad to shrink without touching R2. You may have to extend the duration to smooth it out, but that should allow you to retain control over Connie.
