Making a character from scratch is pretty difficult imo
What you need to do is take a puppet , scope in so you can see the blue circle .... Select the whole puppet body parts and delete it... The blue circle should still be there... Scope out take your whole puppet and drag it over to where the puppet was....scope in with l1 + X. Now your sculpture should be in the blue circle and you can assign the body parts.....animating an animal on 4 legs is a different beast I haven't tried yet though
