Another option is to make a keyframe and record hiding the weapon. Make sure the keyframe has "Keep Changes" off in its tweak menu. That means the weapon will go back to its original state when the keyframe turns off. You can then drag the keyframe on to your timeline with the animation of the weapon attack. Scale it to make it the same length as the animation and it should just work!
