A note on the textbox method, you can change the colour of the box to a darker one if that would help in a particular circumstance.
Make sure you're turning impasto to -100% as they do in the video, as opposed to 0%.
I'm not sure what you mean about the edges being "chaotic." If impasto is at -100%, they will be flat, but perhaps you're talking about something else?
Does it seem to look the same as in the video? How does it differ?
