Smoke and mirrors is usually the best approach for these kinds of things, just make it look like the bow passes to the hand.
If you add another bow to the puppet hand and make it invisible and then keyframe the hand to the position of the bow on the back. Then make the one on the back invisible and the one in the hand visible.
